The Mexicans celebrate the "Day of the Battle of Puebla" ("Cinco de Mayo") on 5 May. In 1862, the Mexican Army defeated a much larger French Army, sent by Napoleon III to destabilize the government and gather taxes. Nowadays, the holiday is celebrated mainly in Puebla itself, with a great festivity. In the rest of Mexico, the holiday is of lesser importance. But many US-Citizens with a Mexican origin celebrate this holiday extensively with dancing and music.
